Dog Care Philosophy |
In today’s modern, fast-paced world many dogs are not given enough personal time. Like humans, dogs are social creatures that enjoy the
company of others. Also like humans, play is very important for their mental and physical well-being. At Gilbert Dogs 24/7, we are here to help you
fill the gap by welcoming your dog into our family. Dogs left alone all day can become frustrated, and stressed, often looking for a way to relieve their
boredom by engaging in unwanted behaviors.
Gilbert Dogs 24/7 provides a safe, secure environment which allows dogs to spend their day participating in activities designed to engage both mind and body. Activities range from free-play time with other dogs, swimming, hide-and-seek and interactive toys that reinforce problem solving skills. Some games are played in group format; others allow one-on-one time between dog and staff. Of course, participation is optional and we allow dogs to participate at whatever level is most comfortable for them.
At Gilbert Dogs 24/7, first-time dog clients are given a behavioral evaluation to ensure that the dog is well-socialized and a good candidate for daycare. Human clients are given a profile to fill out noting their dog’s preferences in toys, activities, food, companions, etc. This information is used to help create a mentally and physically enriching environment, tailored to each dog’s personal preferences.
Our program is unique in that it is based on positive behavior. We acknowledge each dog’s individual needs and preferences. We group dogs by compatible play style, not just separating by size. Group sizes and styles are fluid, to reflect the needs of each particular dog on any given day. Positive behaviors (sitting, not jumping up, and walking nicely on leash) are reinforced as we strive to teach dogs to behave in a manner appropriate in a home environment. “Nap time” is provided to allow the dogs a chance to relax and to reinforce calming skills. Daily walks are important to give the dogs a change of scenery; this promotes good leash manners and allows each dog some individual attention. We only use positive reinforcement, which we believe is the most humane and effective form of training.
At Gilbert Dogs 24/7, staff is with the dogs “24/7”. Our staff is trained to identify signs of stress and arousal in order to diffuse any issues before they start. After all, some dogs just do not get along, much like their human counterparts! Others do not know how to take “no thank you” for an answer. Dogs who become rowdy or over-stimulated are given time in a “chill out” room to help them settle down. The environment we provide is designed to give fun and structure to our guests, which will lead to well-socialized dogs. We have created an environment in which dogs will retain the good behavior you teach them at home. Also, we don’t allow the strong bossy dogs to dominate the group. We have created an environment in which both the bossy, rowdy dog and the timid, shy dog can meet in the middle and socialize comfortably. The needs of dogs are very similar to the needs of young children regarding structure, supervision and boundaries. Just as every child has a different comfort level, personality and play style, so do dogs.
Our goal is to be the kind of place where dogs are very excited to come, knowing that “only GREAT, GOOD THINGS HAPPEN HERE!” Not only does Gilbert Dogs 24/7 love dogs, Gilbert Dogs 24/7 KNOWS dogs.
